I am a retired Property Manager and proud of it. Now I am full time Realtor. I am also a real estate investor, father, and husband.
It is my wish and belief that through careful management, real estate investors will survive and thrive in the current economic crisis. I survived the dark days of Alberta in the mid 1980’s when the market went sideways. The current minor downturn, and it is minor in Alberta, will change, and the market will recover.
This blog is about my experiences good and bad, hoping that some idea will help the fellow investor/ landlord/tenant/ human being.
Successful investors in real estate are in for the long term. Not the quick flip and make the million dollars and move on.  I may from time to time use my own examples of real estate investments to illustrate a point. I do not sell company shares, time shares, investment certificates, or limited partnerships. I am a licensed real estate broker in the province of Alberta, and only for the purpose of assisting my clients to create wealth.
Davies Management & Realty Ltd. is an Edmonton, Alberta based company that provides third-party property management for private and government clients. It currently has over 1000 tenants.
Davies Management & Realty Ltd. was owned by the Davies Family from July 1984 to January 2008, a period of 24 years. February 1, 2008, Jason Dolynny purchased our shares in the company, and I no longer have an active role in the day to day property management operations. I am operate the realty division and am the  Broker for Davies Management & Realty Ltd.
The Real Estate division of Davies Management & Realty Ltd provides buying and selling services for Real Estate Investors. Other services provided are rental reviews of investors properties, management audits, and operational audits. Assisting Owners in making their real estate perform.
After spending many years in the trenches, doing the day to day stuff for other folks, I joined the Real Estate Investment Network (REIN), in 2005; which added additional tools and contacts  for financing properties and joint venture opportunities. Raising capital is one key to success in real estate investing.
My personal real estate holdings holdings have increased substantially as a result of REIN, a great education resource.
My first involvement in Real Estate was with my Father, Bill who purchased his first investment property in 1973.  My high school years had many weekends spent painting apartment suites and buildings. I learned to be a handyman at early age.
I have a journeymen carpenter ticket, a Diploma in Building Construction Engineering Technology from NAIT, am a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), a licensed Realtor/Broker and spent the last 24 years as a professional property manager.
My wife Leigh is a Certified Management Accountant (C.M.A.) and she spent 24 years in the business.
